Please Attend! Oct 15th City Council + Planning Commission Study Session
ALERT: The City Council is having a “Study Session” with the Planning Commission tomorrow at City Hall at 530pm. They will discuss the commission’s recommendations on the proposed Neighborhood Plan updates that include calls for increased density and high density corridors on 70th and 108th streets, etc. See detailed agenda at this link.
We request you to please ATTEND IN PERSON and WEAR BLUE to indicate pushback on density without a moderate approach (a middle path between the No Growth and High Density approaches). AND please email to indicate your thoughts (see below).
What’s at stake tomorrow? One of the planning commissioners, Bria Heiser (who you also heard from at the HNA meeting last week) has put forward a VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE (see video snippet) in this planning process and suggested it be redone with a moderate approach proposed as well. That vote was struck down by the Commission, however will be discussed tomorrow.
In the meanwhile, BEFORE TOMORROW, please email the city councilmembers and commissioners at the emails below, asking for the City to create a balanced / moderate plan between the two extreme approaches. Commissioner Heiser pointed out that according to State guidelines, the City has to consider 3 growth options (Bellevue, Redmond, Seattle have all done so). Kirkland did not follow these guidelines!
